What you will learn

• For beginners, the emphasis is placed on general musicianship skills - in particular, singing, aural identification and rhythm - to develop an understanding of music as a whole before attempting to apply this understanding to the instrument.

• Emphasis is also placed on developing sound and sustainable technique from the very first lesson. Rachel has been fortunate enough to study piano teaching with one of Australia’s only Taubman Certified Teachers, and brings this understanding of how healthy piano technique works to students of all ages and levels.

• Students explore a range of repertoire and modes of learning, beginning with rote learning and playing by ear, learning to read traditional notation and also reading chord charts and lead sheets.

• Students have the option to participate in graded exams, performances, competitions and eisteddfods throughout the year. Rachel’s students regularly attain Distinctions and Credits in their exams.

• Lessons incorporate a range of age-appropriate activities including playing games to reinforce theory concepts for younger students. Online resources and apps are used for reinforcement with older students.
